Viva!  A Celebration of Latin Dance and Music

Friday, August 15th

7-11 p.m.


8 p.m. Salsabrosa --  The hottest Latin band in the Twin Cities featuring Afro-Cuban rhythms and Grammy Award winning pianist Viviana Pintado. 

7 p.m. Free dance lesson with noted Afro-Cuban dancer Rene Thompson who has danced in films with Gloria Estafan, Will Smith, and Chayo and who now has his own dance studio in Minneapolis.



Festival Saturday:  A Celebration of Creative, Vital, Multi-generational Progressive, and Historic Community including the Shy Songwriter's Forum All Under a Full Moon

Saturday, August 16th

1-11 p.m.


8 p.m. Headliner Kurt Jorgensen, winner of a dozen Minnesota Music Awards (best album, best male vocalist, best original song)  fabulous guitar player, versatile stylist, and ten CDs brings his band for a great listening and dancing show.  Kurt will also offer the seminar on the "Business of Songwriting" from 4-4:45 and comment on songwriter performances from 5-7.  How great is that!

8 p.m. The Ben Mills Mystery Project – yes, they’re back, the incredible jazz band that mesmerized audiences at the 2007 festival.

           
5 p.m. Songwriters selected from the summer's events will be on stage, a celebration of the many talented singer-songwriters who combine musical genius with poetry, whimsy, social commentary, and love.   
4 p.m. The Children's Hour on the outdoor stage from 4-5 p.m.  with story teller Greg Jacobs.  

           
4 – 4:45 p.m. The Business of Songwriting (in the auditorium) with Kurt Jorgensen open to all songwriters who participated in the preliminary performances and hey, if you’re just plain interested you can listen in, too.


3:15-4 p.m. Carl Unbehaun, eclectic songwriter, and the incomparable Bruce Bjork on guitar.

2:30 - 3:15 p.m. Cynthia Rintala, vocal power and original folk songs about everything from walking the dog to social concerns.

1:45-2:30    The Juggernauts, beloved Folk-Old Tyme duo with the original songs of Dave Frank on guitar and banjo and Dylan Frautschi on standing bass.

1-1:45 Old Tyme Southern Minister Musician Mr. Bob Rutherford with friends.  Yes, an Old Timer playing Old Tyme music chosen expressly for Lamar's Old Timers!  

2 and 5 p.m. Solar tours of Lamar’s innovative solar high mass heating system



Sunday Gospel Service

Sunday, August 17th

9:30 a.m.


It's practically a tradition!  Sponsored by Fristad Lutheran Church featuring the stars of Fristad and Tracye Fry, classic old time gospel on autoharp, banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, keyboards and who knows what else.  Glory be!

Food by Pedro’s Mexican Kitchen, Fine Acres, the Buzz, Mike Johnson, the
